So, here it comes, our first hiking trip!
We’ll go east, to the Mullerthal region, called Luxembourg’s little Switzerland.
We’ll start in Echternach and follow the route E1, recommended by our tourist office. It is 11.7 km long, so about 4 hours of walking.
It is not very easy, as it often goes up and downhill and there are many stairs too, but the previous group of trainees made it, so we can’t be worse! You may also just do part of this track (i.e. from Echternach to Berdorf or the other way round). There are regular bus connections between Berdorf and Echternach.
No shops on the way (pure nature!), so you should take water with you. After we’ve done all the walking, we can go to the little cute town for a lunch/coffee and look around there as well.
Hey, we can also be hardcore-hikers and after the break take another 2 hour route to see a lake which is in the other direction.
According to the forecasts, there will be plenty of sunshine on Saturday (yes, hard to believe it!).
So, if you think your skin may need it, take some sun cream, dress properly (for around 15 °C), take good shoes, something to eat and drink. We may want to have a break after 2 hours, so it would be nice to have some chocolate or a sandwich, depending on how hungry you can get by this time.
You can take the bus number 110 (direct) or 111 (passing over other villages) from Luxembourg to Echternach every 30 minutes.
We suggest to meet on Saturday at 10:00 at the bus stop Gare routière (it is close to the railway station, but maybe try to come a little bit in advance to have time to find it). The bus 110 leaves at 10.23. It will take us an hour (direct bus) to get to the forests!
On our way back we will be free to do whatever we want – stay longer in the town, go directly to Luxembourg, keep walking up to Maastricht – it is completely up to you!
You can find a more detailed description of our tour here.
See you on Saturday!
P. S. Soon our Sports Subcommittee will also organise a bowling event, a picnic and, if you are interested, a yoga course and a volleyball tournament. We will ask your opinion and keep you updated!
