We all hate to hear it, still we all say it: we’re now in the middle of our “lasts” as Commission trainees: our last month, our last week, our last Tuesday… and what is still yet to come, our last lunch together and the much-feared moment of handing back our badge.
In this series of lasts, the Food & Wine SC held its last event last week: Europicnic. And everyone loved it because, let’s be honest, it was amazing*. The concept, as it usually is with picnics, was very simple: a sunny day, a fresh green lawn, drinks, food and a good mood. Add to these simple ingredients around 50 not-yet-former trainees, former trainees, their friends, their culinary talent, and a couple of friendly dogs.
The result? An evening to remember.
Some people brought Pimm’s from the UK, Hungarian egg cream sandwiches, a Finnish berry pie, lots of Spanish tortilla, even more Kartoffelsalat, Austrian Wienerschnitzel and Kartoffelkäse, a “homemade” Slovenian rolade and Bosnian cookies (the dog’s favourites), Dutch cheese, a Polish apple pie, Czech beer and canapés, Italian cantuccini, Slovenian trenta and sweets, Lithuanian lazy man cake, pizza rolls, or some cheese cubes that asked very difficult questions.
The Food & Wine SC would like to thank you all for your enthusiasm, your generosity and the yummy treats you prepared for our last event, and bids you farewell with the hope of having filled your bellies with deliciousness over the last five months.
Eat long and prosper.
